Investopedia: Best Short Term Stock Screener, 2024

The short answer: The best AI trading software tells you about a trade while it is happening, with a plan attached. Trade Ideas is our pick. Holly, our AI, fires signals during the session with an entry, a stop and a target, on TI Premium (Apex). Holly AI Assistant, in every TI Pro plan, turns a plain-English request into a live scan. If you want one AI score per stock for long-term investing, Danelfin is built for that.

Written by Daniel Mirkin, CEO of Trade Ideas, which makes one of the tools compared here.

Our picks, by what you want the AI to do

  • AI signals while the market is open: Trade Ideas. Each Holly signal names an entry, a stop and a target.
  • Scans from a plain-English request: Trade Ideas. The AI Assistant builds live Alert and Top List windows.
  • AI robots on several time frames: Tickeron.
  • An AI assistant beside your charts: TrendSpider.
  • A daily AI score for each stock: Danelfin, or AltIndex for alternative data.
  • Hands-off portfolios, no code: Composer.
  • AI research next to breaking news: Benzinga Pro.
  • AI screener help at a low price: TradingView.
Four kinds of AI

What AI trading software actually does

"AI trading software" covers very different tools. Knowing which kind you want saves you a lot of trials.

  • Live signals. The AI watches the market and tells you about a trade while it is happening. Holly in Trade Ideas and Tickeron's robots work this way.
  • Scores and rankings. The AI rates each stock, usually once a day. Danelfin and AltIndex work this way. Trade Ideas has its own live rating, SCoRE, which runs from 30 to 100 and updates in real time.
  • Assistants. You ask in plain English and the AI does the setup work. Examples are the Trade Ideas AI Assistant, TrendSpider's Sidekick and TradingView's AI screener requests.
  • Automation. The software places trades from rules. Composer automates portfolios. Trade Ideas has Money Machine on TI Premium, which automates entries and trade management from your own scans.

How we compared

AI is easy to claim and harder to use. So all 8 tools faced the same 8 questions, with one table column for each.

  • What it is: Signals, scores, an assistant or automation.
  • Real-time data: Does the AI work on live data, and on which plan?
  • Scans and alerts: Does the AI's output reach you as an alert?
  • Backtesting: Can you test what the AI suggests before you trust it?
  • AI: What the AI does, in the vendor's own words.
  • Beginner-friendly: Ready-made setups, training, a free plan or trial.
  • Price: List price on the vendor's site, monthly and yearly where shown.
  • Best for: The trader or investor it suits.

The list

The 8 best AI trading tools in 2026

  1. 1. Trade Ideas

Trade Ideas puts Holly, its AI, inside a real-time scanner and screener. Holly searches the market during the session and brings you the trade. The AI Assistant does the setup work, so your time goes into deciding.

Rule-based alerts next to the AI. Holly AI Signals are one part. Streaming Alerts give you 310 alerts and 249 filters to build your own scans, documented in our help; any alert combines with any filters, each set with a min and max, and 191 alerts add a setting of their own. Examples include a 5-minute MACD crossing above zero, a Fibonacci 79% buy signal, whose own setting weighs how many hours the pattern took to form, and opening range breakouts and breakdowns at 1, 2, 5, 10, 15, 30 and 60 minutes, such as the 15-minute breakout.

A trade, not a score. Holly AI Signals run on live market data and fire intraday. Each one names an entry, a stop and a target, so you know the plan before you act. Signals come with TI Premium.

Testing you can check. Holly only signals strategies that pass its nightly test on market history. You can run your own test in OddsMaker, with no code, also on TI Premium, using any alert you build as the event. Then practice the signals in paper trading before real money is involved.

Setup in plain English. Holly AI Assistant comes with TI Pro on every Trade Ideas plan. Ask for a scan and it builds the live window. On the Channel Bar, you can browse Holly's strategy channels and watch each signal fire.

People, too. The free Trading Room with Barrie Einarson shows Holly and the AI Assistant at work during the session.

Price: TI Standard is $127 a month, or $1,068 a year. TI Premium, which adds AI Signals, is $254 a month, or $2,136 a year.

Worth knowing: Trade Ideas covers U.S.-listed stocks. Its options data is limited to volume-based filters. TI Pro is for Windows. On a Mac, the browser-based web Dashboard needs no download, but Holly AI Signals and the AI Assistant stay in TI Pro.

Holly, explained

AI stock picker for day trading: what Holly does

Holly is the Trade Ideas AI. Each night it tests its strategies on market history. Only the strategies that pass get to signal the next day.

When one fires, you get the symbol, an entry, a stop and a target. Holly aims these intraday signals at large, long-term potential winners. So the call is yours: take the exit the same day, or hold.

Holly can also draw on SCoRE, which Trade Ideas offers as the Composite Rating filter. It brings SCoRE in where that helps find a statistical advantage. SCoRE is a quality filter, not a buy or sell signal.

Past results, including backtests, don't guarantee future results.

Holly AI Signals come with TI Premium. The Holly AI Signals page shows how they work.

Plain English

The Trade Ideas AI Assistant

Type a request such as "a top list of the biggest gainers". The AI Assistant builds a live Top List that updates every 15 seconds.

Open a chart and ask what is going on. It points out key levels and buying or selling pressure. Want test results? It hands your setup to OddsMaker.

Best by trading style

Which AI tool fits how you trade

Day traders

Holly AI Signals fire intraday with levels you can act on. Tickeron's 5 and 15-minute robots are another option.

Swing traders and investors

A Holly signal can start a trade you hold. For daily scores, Danelfin and AltIndex are built for investors.

Chart traders

TrendSpider puts Sidekick next to your charts. TradingView adds AI requests to its screener.

Hands-off automation

Composer automates rule-based portfolios. Money Machine on TI Premium automates trades from your own scans, and it has a Simulated Mode.

New traders

Ready-made channels and an assistant that answers in plain English make Trade Ideas an easy premium start. See the best stock scanners for beginners.

Backtesting first

Want to test before you trust? See the best backtesting software.

Pick Trade Ideas if you want an AI that both signals and builds. TI Premium supplies Holly AI Signals through every session, each with a defined entry, stop and target, plus OddsMaker for testing an idea before you act on it. In every TI Pro plan, the AI Assistant turns plain English into a scan, while the no-code menu of 310 alerts and 249 filters and the Formula Editor let you build your own.

Before you buy

How do you judge an AI trading tool?

  1. When does it speak? A daily score helps an investor. A day trader needs a signal while the stock is moving.
  2. What does a signal include? Look for an entry, a stop and an exit plan, not only a ticker.
  3. Can you test it? A tool that lets you replay the idea on history, or practice it in a simulator, earns more trust.
  4. How are results shown? Check whether a track record is simulated or live, and whether fees are included.
  5. Who decides? Most tools leave the final call to you. If a tool trades for you, learn how it manages risk first.

Past results, including backtests, don't guarantee future results.

Honest take

Who Trade Ideas is not for

Holly is built for traders who act during the session. These traders will get less from it.

  • You want one score per stock to review on the weekend. A daily ranking tool may suit you better.
  • You trade only crypto, forex or futures. Trade Ideas covers U.S.-listed stocks.
  • The subscription would be a big share of your account. Paper trade with a free tool first.
If you are okay with static non-refreshing data, Trade Ideas is probably not your best choice.

How we checked

  • The same eight points for each tool. Each matches a column in the comparison table.
  • Company pages only. Each competitor fact comes from that company's pricing or product page. Holly details come from the Trade Ideas Holly guide and product pages.
  • "Not listed" means not found. It does not mean the tool lacks the feature.
  • Order. Trade Ideas is first because live AI signals are the job we built it for. The others follow by how close they come to live, actionable AI.
